D.I.N. Policy

Trivia Rules

The rules for fair play, scores, streaks, and promotions.

Effective 12 Oct 2026

Who runs it, and who can enter

The D.I.N. trivia ladder is organised and sponsored by Creative Natives Inc., the operator of D.I.N. Apple Inc. and Google LLC are not sponsors of the ladder or any prize, and are not involved in it in any way.

To play you need a D.I.N. account, which is for people 16 and over. Prizes are only for players aged 18 or over who have given their date of birth: a player under 18 can play and appears in the standings, but is passed over for prizes and seats in the finals, which go to the next eligible player.

Cash prizes can only be withdrawn to a Nigerian bank account, and airtime and items are only sent within Nigeria. You can play from anywhere, but a winner who cannot receive a prize in one of those ways forfeits it, and the money goes back into the pot.

Fair play

Trivia is for individual, good-faith participation. Do not use scripts, bots, unauthorised automation, answer-sharing schemes, duplicate accounts, exploits, or other methods that interfere with fair play. D.I.N. may invalidate attempts, scores, streaks, rewards, or entries affected by suspected manipulation.

The service may apply time limits, attempt limits, eligibility checks, anti-fraud controls, and score validation. A displayed score, streak, or rank remains provisional until D.I.N. records and validates the attempt.

Scores, streaks, and rewards

Trivia results are determined by the server records and rules in effect for that round. We may correct a display error, technical issue, or invalid attempt. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, exact question timing, or a particular score, rank, reward, or reputation outcome.

If a promotion or prize is offered, its eligibility, closing date, selection method, winner verification, delivery terms, and any country-specific restrictions will be shown in the promotion-specific rules. Unless those rules expressly say otherwise, trivia participation alone does not create a right to a prize.

The prize ladder (rules version 2026-10.4)

The daily trivia is free practice. It carries no prize and does not feed the ladder — it is there to play every day and build a streak. Once a day's questions have gone out they are not changed. A day's game must be sent before midnight, Nigerian time: one sent after midnight isn't recorded, and the new day's game is ready to play.

The ladder has three competitive rungs, each feeding the next. The Weekly Showdown runs every Sunday from 7pm to 9pm WAT and is open to every D.I.N. account; the top ten can win a prize and earn a seat in the Monthly Final. The Monthly Final runs on the last Sunday of the month at 7pm WAT and is open only to players who earned a seat; the top ten can win a prize and earn a seat in the Grand Final. The Grand Final runs on the second Sunday of December at 7pm WAT, is open only to players who earned a seat, and its top ten can win a prize.

Entry is always free. There is no entry fee, no paid retry, and nothing you can buy that improves your score, your position, or your chance of a seat. Boosts, subscriptions and any other paid feature have no effect whatsoever on trivia standing.

This is a competition of skill, not a game of chance. Winners are decided by the answers they give, never by a draw.

Nobody applies or registers. You enter the Weekly Showdown by playing it while it is open, and a seat you earn in a final is kept for you automatically.

A seat is always for a final you can still play: the first one that opens at least four days after your round closes, which leaves time for any tiebreak. So the last Weekly Showdown of a month, which runs the same evening as that month's final, earns a seat in the next month's final; and December's Monthly Final earns a seat in the next year's Grand Final.

If you qualify for the same final more than once, you keep one seat with the best bonus you earned.

If a round cannot run, it is cancelled. Nothing is paid for it, its prize pot carries to the next round of the same rung, and seats earned for it move to that next round.

How a round is scored

Every entrant in a round answers the same questions in the same order, fixed before the round opens. Answers are marked on our servers and are never sent to your device before you submit.

You may enter a round once. The clock starts when you open the paper, and each rung has a time limit — ten minutes for the Weekly, fifteen for the Monthly, twenty for the Grand Final. The app saves your answers as you go and sends your paper as your time runs out. If you leave a paper and come back while your time is still running, you carry on with the same questions, your saved answers and the same clock.

A paper that reaches us after your limit (we allow fifteen seconds for a slow connection) is not marked as sent. Answers that were saved before your time ran out still count, timed to when they were saved. A paper with no answers at all does not count as a finish.

Placings are decided by, in order: the higher score; then the shorter time taken, as measured by our servers. Points carried from qualifying are added to your score, so they can change the order: three for winning the round below, two for second or third, and one for the rest of the top ten, never more than three in all.

If two players cannot be separated on those measures and the tie falls on the last place with a prize (cash, airtime or an item) or the last qualifying place, they play a short tiebreak round the next evening at 7pm. We will not split a tie by drawing lots, tossing a coin, or any other method involving chance.

Up to three tiebreaks are played. A tiebreak that cannot be held (for example, no questions are ready) is booked again, up to three more times. If the players are still level after that — usually because none of them played — they share: the prizes of the places they cover are split equally in cash, and every one of them takes a seat, even if that makes more than ten.

Standings and the answers are published after a round closes, not while it is running. Results are confirmed shortly after; until then the board is marked provisional. Once confirmed, the board shows the placings that were paid. Staff appear as practice, without a placing.

Where prizes come from

Prizes change from round to round, because they come from donations. Some rounds pay cash, some pay only small prizes such as airtime or a D.I.N. gift, and some pay nothing at all. What a round pays is shown on the round, in its notices, and on the card you see before you start. A round that pays nothing still counts for points and for a seat in the next round.

Prizes are paid from public donations. Each rung (Weekly, Monthly, Grand Final) has its own prize pot. When someone donates, D.I.N. keeps a share to run the service (currently 10%), and the donor is shown it before paying; the rest goes into the pot. Donating gives no entry, seat, score or advantage.

A round’s pot is fixed when the round opens: it is every donation to that rung’s pot not yet used by an earlier round. The prize for each place is shown on the round before and while it is played. Donations made after a round opens go to the next round of the same rung.

The pot is shared by a fixed percentage per place, shown on the round (by default 1st 30%, 2nd 18%, 3rd 12%, 4th–8th 6% each, 9th–10th 5% each). 1st to 3rd are always paid in cash. For 4th to 10th, the round may show the share as cash, airtime of the same value, or a named item; if the share is more than the item costs, the difference is paid as cash.

There is a minimum prize (currently ₦500). If the pot is too small for every place to get at least that, fewer places are paid and their percentages are shared among the places above. A pot too small to pay even first place carries over to the next round of the same rung.

When a round’s pot gives a place nothing — because there were no donations, or the pot was too small — D.I.N. may give that place a small prize such as airtime, a T-shirt or a cap. Unless the round shows otherwise, that is ₦500 airtime for each of the top three. Any such prize is shown on the round before it opens, with whether it is airtime (we ask for a phone number) or a posted item (we ask for a delivery address).

Players who tie on a paid place share the combined prizes of the places they occupy equally, as cash. A tie that falls on the last paid place is settled by a tiebreak round, as described above.

Pot money that is not won — because fewer players finished than there are prizes, or a prize is forfeited — goes back into the pot for the next round of the same rung.

Prizes and winner verification

Prizes are awarded strictly by placing. A recorded placing is not a payment: every prize is held for verification. A member of staff confirms that the winner is who the account says, plays on that one account only, is not staff or living with staff, and is 18 or over; we check the account again at that point and again before paying. A different member of staff then pays or sends it. We keep a record of each check, not copies of documents. We aim to do this within three working days.

Cash prizes are paid into your D.I.N. wallet, from where you can withdraw them to a Nigerian bank account. For airtime or an item, you will be asked for a phone number or a delivery address; we use it only to send that prize and delete a delivery address once the item is sent.

We may withhold or withdraw a prize where an entry breaches these Rules, where an account is duplicated or automated, or where we cannot verify the winner. Any tax or charge arising on a prize is the winner’s responsibility.

If we find an entry was cheated (shared answers, a second account, a bot), we disqualify it. It counts for nothing: its unpaid prizes are forfeited and go back into the pot, seats it earned are taken back, and any later entry made with such a seat is disqualified too. If results have not been confirmed yet, everyone below moves up. If they have, the placings stand and the entry is shown as disqualified. A prize already paid may be recovered. A prize that is simply not claimed or cannot be verified is forfeited, but the winner keeps any seat they earned.

Staff, contractors, and their immediate households may play for practice but are not eligible for prizes.

These terms are versioned. Each round records the version it ran under, together with the exact settings it used (fee, minimum prize, time limits, tiebreak limit), and a settled result is always judged against the rules that were published when it was played.
